Kenzie spent most of the morning watching cartoons, then we watched Nanny McPhee on ABC Family. I've never actually watched that movie in its entirety and found it to be not so bad.

After Kenzie went to take a nap, I decided to do a much needed closet cleanout of my shoes. I have a big bag full of shoes that are destined for shoe heaven, and another pile of shoes that I might try to list on the bay. These are NOT part of that collection. Since the closet I use to store my shoes is in what will be Baby #2's room, I will have to find a new home for my shoes. I've found that I've outgrown some shoes, and some I just don't even wear anymore since they are really out of style. I still have my old Doc Martens on the top shelf that I just can't bring myself to part with, even though I don't even wear them anymore and a couple pairs fall into the category of being too small now.

I found her ballet slippers and put them on her too.

As soon as I opened the second box with pink trainers, she immediately took the shoes she was wearing off to put them on. I take it she liked them. I had to change her whole outfit just so she could wear the new shoes. They are a little big, but she really wanted to wear them.

John is running the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge tonight after work. It's a 5k run, and he is running with some co-workers. If the rain stays away, Kenzie and I might head to Grant Park and meet up with him afterwards. The sun is shining, so I'm hoping it will stay that way.

I saw that the adult version would be out in 2010 though, but I still had a heck of a time trying to find them. I completely lucked out over the weekend when I did another search and DID find one seller that had them in orange for kids and adults. Unfortunately, they were not available in my size, but I took a chance and ordered a size up. They came today and the size I ordered is perfect! Kenzie got matching orange sandals too, only I bought hers in the cute sweetheart style. So now we match, but not completely. :)

Of course, it was extremely hard to try and get her to stand next to me for the photo. These were the best I got.

Went to Target today to pick up just a couple things, but saw these cute flip flops and decided to get them. How could I not? They have a little owl on the strap. Also got this rug on clearance. A week ago today, I discovered that someone stole our really cool owl doormat off our porch that I just bought earlier this year. I was really pissed to say the least, since not only was it relatively new and not that cheap, I also happened to REALLY like it. I don't know who would have stolen a doormat since our house is in a townhouse complex and it is sort of private. I have a feeling my crazy neighbor was involved. Anyway, I bought two new doormats today, both on clearance. This one is going to stay outside by our backdoor, and the other one will just stay in our front foyer. Even though it was only $9, I'm not chancing it getting stolen.

These are the only Crocs I own, and probably the only style I will wear. I've mentioned before that I am not a fan of the traditional style (though Kenzie has two pair of fakes). I saw these online, and got a good price. They are actually pink and white striped canvas. They are really comfy, and I've been wearing them a lot more than I thought I would.

After shopping we walked through the new Block 37 building and discovered all the new shops that are open (or opening soon). It's been awhile since I've been over in that area. Last fall I was there with my parents, but the shops weren't there yet. There's quite a bit there now and lots more opening. And it's right off the Blue and Red line stops which is great. Of course, if only the Washington Blue line stop was handicap accessible it would be even more convenient. As it is there is no way I will be hauling a stroller up or down the stairs just to avoid walking an extra couple blocks to get there.

After shopping, we stopped for lunch at Elephant and Castle then decided to walk through Millenium Park. On our way, we came across the Puppet Bike. I saw this last fall with Kenzie, and she loved it. So we watched for a few minutes. I dug a $1 out of my bag and John took Kenzie up to the "stage" so she could put the dollar in the box. She loved that the lion came out right afterwards for her. She was jumping up and down and dancing to the music. The people watching the puppet show were laughing at how cute Kenzie was. Unfortunately I didn't bring my camera, so all I got was this cell phone shot....and of course right after this I couldn't snap any others since my memory card was full. Oh well, I need to clear it out once in awhile I guess.

I always enjoy when my issue of Bust arrives in the mail, even though I might not get a chance to sit down and look at it for weeks. I, of course, had to mark the pages with albums I want to check out, or online shops to check out. I found a pair of super cute vegan shoes, but unfortunately found they were just a little more than I wanted to spend right now. Even though they might rank right up there with my Fluevogs. I might have to keep an eye on them in case they go on sale.

On a side note, I should have been sewing rather than looking at a magazine, but I just wasn't totally feeling like sewing. I do need to get more baby booties in my shop though, since I only have one pair left right now.

The day started out really lovely with lots of sun, but now it's starting to look gloomy. It's supposed to rain apparently, which is annoying because I was hoping to have dinner outside either at home or go somewhere. We'll have to do that another day, I guess. I should have known that it would rain, since I've had a slight headache all day...the kind I tend to get on rainy days. Between pregnancy hormones, allergies, and crummy weather, I just can't seem to keep the headaches away.

Last night, John was playing some music on his computer, and I heard this song in the playlist. I remember listening to Sleeper a lot back in the mid-nineties. I still love listening to this britpop, and even though the production of some of these albums is sort of dated, I still enjoy it.

I don't shoot enough in black and white. I love black and white photography, but for some reason I always end up shooting in color and I never want to convert the shots to black and white. I love color, and I guess it's more of my style. I keep telling myself I am going to just change the setting on my camera for a week and shoot in black and white. I need to get more variety in my shots.

After dinner we went for a Dairy Queen run, and she HAD to bring this balloon with. It's not a large balloon, so it is perfect size for her to carry with her.

I realized toward the end of the day that I never took a photo, so I ended up snapping this of the ice cream cake we had for dessert. It was delicious, with strawberry, vanilla and chocolate ice cream with a cookie crust. mmm.

That way when we have people over, rather than getting out paper plates for appetizers, we can just use these. These plates are pretty small in size, but are super cute if you're a Warhol fan.

I've recently been getting into using actions on my photos. I tried some free actions offered by Paint the Moon, then just downloaded some freebies from CoffeeShop Photography. I was just playing around with some of the actions this morning, and so far I like what they do. I know there are still things I can play around with, but I have a good start with learning the features. I only wish I had discovered these actions earlier.

My birthday was a couple of weeks ago, and this was one of the items my parents gave me. My mom knows how much I like these boxes, but also how much I could use them for storage. I have a tendency to accumulate a lot of little things, so these boxes are great for organizing my stuff. I normally use these to store my Blythe and doll stuff, but I am using this box to store camera things like battery chargers, mini tripods, remote, extra lenses, filters, etc. I have a big camera bag that I can use to store that stuff, but I use that bag to store the things I don't really use as often like the telephoto lens and old camcorder. This is the stuff I use just about everyday.

Bench Monday | New Doll, New Jeans, and New Shoes Edition /// 130/365

My new jeans arrived today just as I was thinking about when they might come. They are maternity jeans, but they are so comfy and I love the dark wash and straight leg. I didn't really want to buy a lot of maternity clothes, but I only have three pairs of maternity jeans from when I was pregnant with Kenzie...one pair is fine, but the wash is light in color, another pair is a great color but just too big, and the third pair...well they bother me because they are a trouser style and are just really long and I have to wear heels with them. So a few weeks ago, I ordered some more summery type maternity clothes (t-shirts, crops, skirt, etc...) but the one pair of crops I ordered just did not fit at all how I had hoped, so I decided to exchange them for a new pair of jeans. So they arrived today, just in time to take a Bench Monday shot. I wasn't planning on taking a shot today since I've been running out of ideas, but since the new jeans arrived, and my shoes are still new (they only arrived last Monday), and the doll came on Friday, I thought why not. So here it is....my rather simple shot for today.

I had a really laidback day today. Because we were pretty busy Friday and Saturday, I just wanted to sleep in and rest today. John asked if I wanted to go anywhere for brunch, but I just said we could stay in and make breakfast at home. He went out to the store in the morning to pick up the few things we didn't have and came home and cooked bacon, eggs and pancakes. He also brought home these yellow gerbera daisies, which happen to be one of my favorite flowers.

We did our little family photoshoot, and then just spent the day doing not much of anything else, which was nice. Kenzie was really good today and because we were so busy the last couple of days she took a nice long nap, which was an added bonus.

It was hard to get good shots, since there were so many kids and way too many parents getting in the way. Plus the lighting wasn't quite as good as I had hoped, and I hate using flash. Fortunately, they managed to get the kids outside for some shots, which was such a relief. I didn't think I'd get around to editing the photos today, but I started on it, and just went ahead and edited them all. I think I now need to start thinking about investing in a decent flash attachment, or a better lens with a lower f-stop.

This was taken after we were finished with the shoot. Kenzie is just relaxing on cousin Lynn's shoulder.

When I first heard this song, sometime in the '90's I always wanted to learn the little guitar riff at the beginning. I can remember teaching myself to play the guitar, and thinking I would never understand how to read tabs or how to actually play them. I can remember trying to play the riff and thinking it was the most complicated thing ever. Of course, it's not that complicated at all, but I never really tried to play it after I learned how to really play the guitar. I just downloaded the new single by Teenage Fanclub a few days ago, and have been sort of on a kick listening to them, especially the album "Thirteen". So while doing some laundry this morning, I decided to go ahead and look up the chords for 'Gene Clark' and of course looking at it after playing the guitar for about 10 years now, I couldn't believe how simple the song was. Needless to say, I was playing it over and over just for the heck of it. Kenzie joined me on drums, until she got bored and started playing with the few toys we have in the basement. I really need to play live music more often. I forget how much I enjoy it, until I actually pick up the guitar to play.

She seemed to always want the toys that were behind where he was sleeping, and I had to make sure she wouldn't climb over the baby to get it...or drop anything on him in the process. I finished the baby booties this evening, and had some frustrations with the velcro on one pair, and that caused another delay. What should have taken only half an hour at the most to finish, took well over an hour. I am finally finished though, and just need to take some pictures. Bench Monday | Park Your Car Drive Fluevog Edition /// 123/365

My lovely new Fluevog Response shoes arrived today! These were a birthday gift from my husband, but they didn't have them in stock at our local Fluevog store, so they had to be ordered and sent from Seattle. Since they required a signature, I was worried UPS would arrive when I was gone at my doctor's appointment. Lucky for me, they just arrived. So I snapped a quick Bench Monday shot, did some quick processing. I'm heading to the doctor soon, so I'll comment on more Bench Monday shots later today!

Happy Bench Monday!

I do, however, like some of the new styles they have out, and have actually just ordered a canvas style that will hopefully be comfortable for walking around this summer.

My grandma picked up a pair of Crocs for K, and she put them on all the time, but they were too big, so I decided to try and find her a smaller pair. I priced getting her real Crocs, but could not justify spending $25 on a pair of shoes that I don't even like. So I got her the cheapy Target version for $8. They are still big, but fit better than the other pair. I think she likes them so much because she can put them on easily. She is quite the shoe girl, just like me, so I am hoping the ease of putting them on is the reason why she likes them so much. I will admit though that little kids do look cute in these shoes. And they make her happy. So I can't complain too much, I guess.

She's very independent these days, and will usually sit better knowing she is not strapped in.

We had our friends Nora, Mike and their baby Ella over last night. We hadn't seen them since sometime in late summer/early fall, and baby Ella was not even born yet. The last time we tried to get together, I ended up getting a bad cold that I did not want to pass on to the baby, so we rescheduled and it worked out for last night. Kenzie enjoyed seeing baby Ella, but she was a bit overstimulated by everything (and trying to show off) that she had a few moments of crankiness and tantrums. She's almost 2, so I think we're heading into that stage of her life. Hopefully it won't get too terrible.

It was a nice visit with our friends, and hopefully it won't be another 6+ months before we see them again.
