Today was the first time I was able to go to Target with just Aubrey. It was kind of nice not having to keep track of Kenzie every few seconds. I had to pick up birthday supplies, since Aubrey turns 1 next week and we are having her party this weekend. I will be making chocolate brownies shaped like owls, and red velvet cakeballs. I am hoping they turn out ok. If not, I guess I'll be making a last minute trip out for cupcakes from somewhere.

It was a rainy day today, so I went out and did a little shopping with the girls today. We found Halloween costumes too. Kenzie and Aubrey are both going as cupcakes this year. I chose the cupcake costume for Aubrey, and was a little surprised when Kenzie wanted to be a cupcake too. She first said she wanted to be a ladybug, then wanted to be a butterfly. After trying to decide between a strawberry and the cupcake for Aubrey, Kenzie decided that she would be a cupcake, and she wanted Aubrey to be a cupcake too. So they are both cupcakes. I'm sure it will be pretty cute.

I thought Kenzie looked really cute with her stripy socks and boots paired with her jean skirt, so I asked to take her photo. Without me telling her to, she went and stood on the chair. I guess she remembered that from back when I did Bench Monday photos more regularly. It was pretty cute.

Aubrey and I came a little later and joined daddy and Kenzie at class. It was supposed to be outside, but because it was rainy this morning they held it indoors. I think Kenzie had fun. She said she wants to go back, so that's good.

repainted bathroom

Spent the day working on the downstairs bathroom. We went yesterday to get paint samples. I knew I wanted to paint either the same color as our upstairs bathroom or do a shade darker. I ended up choosing a color pretty similar to upstairs, but I liked how the sample looked the best. This morning I prepped the room, spackling holes and trying to smooth some rough areas of drywall. We had sponge painted the room originally because there were many sections of drywall that were not in very good shape when we moved in. I did my best to fix those spots and once everything was dry and sanded I started painting. The room is tiny, but the walls were so dry they were soaking up the paint. I ended up doing 3 coats on two of the walls (the other 2 walls took the paint much better). Tomorrow I'll get the rest of the things put back. I want to get a smaller shelf to hang on the wall opposite the sink and mirror. We have a large glass shelf that has been there for years, but something smaller will look better. We might paint the trim again, but that's all that's left to do in here.

Kenzie has a new "best friend". They are in the same preschool class, and after class was over they were playing together at the park for almost an hour. They even shared their snack from school. When it was time to go, I thought it was so cute that they were holding hands as we walked to the cars.

I missed last week because John was out of town, but I was back tonight for a pretty fun and packed derby practice. Now I need to get some rest, since I'll be waking up earlier than usual to get the kids ready to take Kenzie to school.

Today was Kenzie's first day of preschool. It's a 2 hour class on Tuesday and Thursday. Not quite long enough to really get a whole lot done while she's at school, but a good length of time to get her used to being away from me and prep her for longer school days next year. This was taken outside the park district building before she headed into class. She was pretty excited. There were no tears shed, and she seemed to enjoy herself. The class is really small, but the teacher is hoping for some late enrollments to fill the additional spots. I also think Kenzie is the youngest in the class. The other kids took the class in the Spring and I think they all seem older than her. Hopefully things will go smoothly on Thursday too.
p.s. the wind blew her hair like that. I did not give her '80's bangs. ;)

Haha...after the stupid day I had today, I can only hope that my life will be happy and peaceful.
Found out today that my husband has to go out of town (again! he was just gone last week for 4 days) next week for another business trip. Though it is only a 2 day trip, he is leaving the night we have reservations for a VERY popular restaurant. So popular that I made the reservations sometime back in May or June and September 26th was the FIRST date I could reserve unless we wanted to eat at either 4:00 or 10:00. It was also going to be our 7 year anniversary dinner (a week late for reasons stated above). SOOOOO....needless to say I was (and still am) pretty upset that he didn't stand up for himself and tell whoever coordinated this that he was unavailable to travel that night.
So after I got this news, what started out as a pretty good day ended up going south the rest of the day. Things are better now, but I'm still peeved that our long-awaited reservations are screwed up. On the bright side? I've decided to not let them go to waste and I will take someone else.

A little blurry, but Kenzie actually asked to have her photo taken which is somewhat rare these days. At least rare that she is not making a silly face while I take the photo.
Just doing a quick upload. I spent a good chunk of the day cleaning the house (making better use of space in both kids bedrooms, put away laundry, vaccuumed and cleaned floors). I think I want to pick out some paint to repaint our downstairs bathroom. Ideally, I'd like to do it before Aubrey's birthday which is coming up. It's a small room, so shouldn't take too long, but I hate painting and sometimes smaller rooms are worse, especially bathrooms.

I saw these today and decided it was time for something new in the living room. The darker rust orange color coordinates with our existing curtains and the blue coordinates nicely with the wall these curtains hang on. If I choose to, I can put the old curtains up with these for more fabric texture and just to add some more interest in the room, but I think for now these look fine on their own.

Daddy has been away since Monday night for a Microsoft Windows 8 conference. Kenzie knows that Daddy was on an airplane and has been telling me everyday, "I miss my dad." Today we were at the playground and an airplane was flying overhead and Kenzie looked up, pointed it out to me, waved at the sky and said "Hi, Dad!"
I think she was hoping he would be coming home on that airplane. Unfortunately, she probably won't see him until Saturday morning, since his flight gets in late tomorrow night.

I woke up pretty darn exhausted from last night's Derby Lite intermediate assessments. (I look pretty tired in this photo, too!) The assessments determine whether we are ready or not to move up to Derby Lite: Original league which has weekly scrimmages. Part of me wants to move up, but part of me thinks I should stay intermediate for one more session. I do think I would have fun scrimmaging though. I think I sometimes hold back when we do bumping drills because some of the other women make it pretty clear they don't want to be hit hard. I'm guessing I'd be less likely to do that if I was among other women who aren't scared. I probably didn't score high enough to worry about moving up yet anyway. I'll be really surprised if I did do well enough.

I wishlisted these boots on modcloth sometime last year. I never thought they would become available again. Sometime in July, I got a notice that my size was available again, and they were the last pair. Without really questioning it, I ordered these straight away. Of course, it had been too hot to even think about wearing them. Today was nice and cool, so I took them for a stroll. Comfortable, colorful, and perfect with jeans. I have a feeling these will be getting a lot of use this Fall.

I have not participated in a Bench Monday since April, and today was the perfect day to do it. This just turned out so much better than I had thought it would. I don't think I've had Kenzie be my model in a Bench Monday shot for a very long time and she was such a great model, that I might have to have her participate in more of these shots in the future. As much fun as I have had being in my Bench Monday shots, it's a lot easier to just take it of someone else.

Taken on Saturday, while visiting at the parent's house. We took Zoe with so that she wouldn't be home alone all day. They have a good size yard, so we thought she might like to run around in the yard with the puppies. For the most part, they all got along.

This was obviously before I left the house. It was HOT outside and the second I stepped outside I was covered in sweat. I will be so happy when we start to get cooler, fall weather. I'm tired of this hot, sticky, humid weather.
