I was toddler free tonight, and went to see Eclipse tonight with my friend Theresa. Definitely my fave out of the three movies. New Moon was better than Twilight, but was really slow paced, whereas this movie had a lot more action. Afterwards, we went and had dinner. It felt strange to be toddler free, since Kenzie is almost ALWAYS with me. It was a nice break though, even though it might be awhile before I get another one. I don't mind though, I actually do enjoy having the little one around. It felt a little empty not having her by my side.

Lincoln Park Zoo
Chicago, IL
Kenzie and I went to the zoo today with my brother and his fiancee. It was a great day, and Kenzie had a lot of fun. She was very excited to see the "monkeys!".

A rather boring photo, I know. I was trying to get a shot of the new rug and drapes in the nursery, but couldn't get a good shot without there being too much shadowing. The rug looks a lot lighter in this photo, but I think it's just the way the sun is hitting it. It's actually the same color as the curtains. Although, we're having a second girl, I really want to try and keep this room more green and orange. I'm trying hard to try and keep the two bedrooms distinct from each other, but since I like a lot of the same things for Kenzie's room and Baby #2's room, it's hard. As much as I would love to continue the owl theme into this room, I'm going to *try* and stay away from it. I would love to try and do something a little different in here, though I know when it's finished it will probably look just like Kenzie's room just in a slightly different color palette.

It is so rare that I get a smile specifically for the camera, so when I do I just keep snapping away. :)

I had some stuff I wanted to write about today for my photo, but I think it's better left off my flickr. Let's just say I'm sick and tired of the family drama that started last fall, and that no matter what you do there are some people who will never get it and will always think they are right ... even though they aren't.

So one of my guilty pleasure tv shows is Tori and Dean on Oxygen. I never watched the first season when they had the bed and breakfast, but got into when they moved back to Hollywood. I dvr it and tend to watch it while Kenzie is napping or if there is nothing else to watch. I never really thought about buying any of her jewelry before, but I ordered a Twiggy London t-shirt from HSN, and decided to check out her jewelry. I got this necklace on sale. I very rarely wear or buy gold, but I just liked it, and thought I could do with expanding my jewelry colors a little bit. Just about all of my jewelry is silver with a few pieces of gold here and there. So of course, when I saw this owl ring on another website I opted for the gold, since I figured it could go with the TS necklace. And I just liked the colors of the stones better in the gold one.

She threw her Elmo and Eeyore toys out of the crib, so apparently thought she would just climb out. She has not yet climbed out, and the only time I ever see her try is when I am standing there. All she does is put the leg up, but quickly puts it back down when I tell her "no". We're really hoping to post-pone buying a real bed for her until sometime in September or maybe after her little sister is born. Mamma likes to sleep in, and I know that once she has freedom to get out of bed, I'm sure she'll have me up bright and early.

"so how long these changes
the long light reaches out of sight
got lost in the great tide
of what I want and what is right"
- bad lieutenant , these changes -
Yes, another pregnancy photo for the 365. 24 weeks exactly today. Only 16 left to go. In some ways October seems so far away, but when I think of it as weeks, it seems so close. In just over 2 weeks, Kenzie turns 2 years old. That's pretty hard to believe too. Everyday she is learning new things, and it amazes me what she picks up from just watching her shows on tv. Today while I was working on something on the computer, she was watching Sesame Street's "Learning About Letters" dvd on John's computer. The last time she watched it, she didn't really interact with it, but this time she was saying the letters as they came up on the screen. We have some of those sponge letters and numbers for the bathtub, but we keep them with her toys downstairs, so we can pull them out and go over the letters and numbers anytime, rather than just in the bath. She gets so excited shouting out the letters - even though she might not always be right.

The almost finished room. Still need to hang artwork, but it's just about done. This color is so much happier than what was here before. And it feels bigger in the room too, even though we have more stuff in here now than before. It's just better organized now.
172/365 | orange
After almost 5 years of living in this townhouse, we finally repainted the last room in the house. It was this horrid, dark, army green color, and it was just such a dreary color and really depressing. I have no idea why we waited so long to do this. Well, I guess, I do...we just didn't want to do it, it was going to be a lot of work. But it needed to be done before the baby is born in October. The whole room is a light creamy yellow color, but one wall is this orange color. It is amazing how much paint really changes a room. It was a lot of work, and a big pain, but so nice to have it done.

Being silly watching Elmo in the newly repainted office of our house. I was still in the process of getting things back in place, so we put a movie on and she was pretty happy.
I forgot to take a photo on Father's Day, since we were working all day on painting. I finished up the work yesterday, and by last night we had most things settled into place.
This is my photo for Sunday, June 20th - even though it's a day late. She did pretty much the same thing all day Sunday, and was a little tv junkee while we worked on the room. She was a good sport.

Today was spent running errands, doing a little shopping, then going to a street fest. We went to the Taste of Randolph, not really for any of the bands, but to just go and get out and walk around. We got my bike out of the basement and put Kenzie in the baby seat so we could just ride our bikes the couple blocks north. I haven't ridden my bike since last October, and Kenzie definitely enjoyed wearing her helmet and riding on the bike a lot more than she did last year.
When we were leaving the street fest, some people walked past us and told us we should go to Mods vs. Rockers over at Bottom Lounge. We rode our bikes over, but opted to take Kenzie to the playground instead. We were happy we did that because she had so much fun running around the playground.

Just a quick photo to post from yesterday. I was busy with some other things last night and just didn't feel like editing any photos.
We had some big storms last night, and a lot of tree branches were knocked to the ground from the strong winds. We're considering going out to a street fest tonight, but if it's going to storm again later, we might just stay in and watch a movie.

It was warm enough today to go ahead and fill the little pool with some water. The unfortunate thing is that we have some really messy trees around our house, so it gets dirty really quickly. She spent some time "swimming" before lunch, and then we went back outside after a quick lunch. This was her lounging poolside in her mini-adirondack chair.

It's rare that I alternate my nail polish colors, but I thought it might be fun, since these two colors go together really well. I needed better lighting to get the true coloring. oh well.

"Butterfly, close your eyes, butterfly
Fold your wings
Dream sweet dreams, butterfly.
When you feel the sun warm on your face again
You will fly
Spread your wings
Butterfly."
- lisa loeb, butterfly -
Flutterfly is what Kenzie calls butterflies. Today she wore her "flutterfly" t-shirt and met another little girl at the park wearing a "flutterfly" shirt. She pointed at her own shirt and said to the little girl "Flutterfly". I didn't actually realize the other girl had a butterfly on her shirt until a little later, and then I realized Kenzie was just pointing out that they both had butterflies on their shirts.

I was tagged by Dawn. I'm not tagging anyone, but if you want to do it, go for it.
Six names you go by.
1. Shannon
2. Daisy
3. Shan
4. Mamma
5. The Shanninator
6. S
Three things you are wearing right now.
1. A pale yellow tank shirt
2. Green suede Chie Mihara sandals
3. A necklace by Skalli that I bought when I was in Paris
Four things you want very badly at this moment.
1. To be finished with the painting in our home office
2. To see the sun, and not this cloudy, dreary day
3. An iPhone 4G - which is funny, since I never geeked out that much over a phone before
4. The baby carrier I ordered over a week ago
Three people who will answer this.
1. Whoever
2. wants
3. to
Two things you did last night.
1. Finished a book I was reading
2. Watched "Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist" on Netflix
Last two people you talked to on the phone.
1. My mom
2. John
Two things you are going to do tomorrow.
1. Probably walk the dog
2. I have no idea, maybe laundry and some cleaning
Three favourite drinks.
1. Margaritas (probably the only drink I have actually missed while pregnant)
2. Coffee
3. Peach iced tea
::The Random Fact Ingredient::
I have a really good memory. If you tell me something, I typically won't forget it. Sometimes I act like I don't remember something just to avoid making the other person feel silly for not remembering. And it really annoys me when I know a conversation went one way, but people say it went another way.
*****
Rules are simple :
take a photo of yourself and answer a couple of easy questions.
1. Your nickname ?
Daisy is probably most used
2. Your favourite colour ?
Green and Orange
3. Your favourite city?
Well, I'd have to say Chicago, since I live here and it's a pretty great city. If I could live anywhere else in the world, it would be Paris and then London.
4. Your favourite book ?
I have read far too many books to have a favorite. "High Fidelity" by Nick Hornby was a favorite for awhile, but it really depends on my mood.
5. Your favourite film ?
Depends on my mood too. Some favorites that come to mind are: "Almost Famous", "Amelie", "Dead Poet's Society", "Napoleon Dynamite", "Never Been Kissed".
6. Your favourite album ?
There is no possible way for me to name a favorite album. My favorite album of the moment is probably "High Violet" by the National.
7. Favourite season ?
I love the Fall. The weather in Chicago is more consistent, and still warm, and I love the changing colors of the trees.
8. Favourite TV-series ?
I don't really have one.
9. Your favourite animal ? If you can't say a cat or a dog.
Giraffes
10. How many languages do you speak ?
Only one, though I would love to learn enough French to speak it fluently. I only know bits and pieces, and everything I learned for our Paris trip in 2007 has pretty much flown out the window.

I've acquired a couple more items for Baby #2, both girlie things that once I saw them I just had to pick them up. This baby better be a girl, since I can't help picking up the cute things I see. Obviously, we don't really need much, since I have a lot of girl things that Kenzie barely wore, but it's nice to have some new things. I even decided that the couple dresses I had made for my etsy shop that never sold are staying here and will be for the baby. Kenzie got the couple I made that were bigger, so she can wear them this summer. Until I have the closet cleaned out, new baby clothes will be hanging on these hooks behind the door.

"All the very best of us string ourselves up for love"
- the national, vanderlyle crybaby geeks -
22 Weeks 3 Days
I wasn't planning on doing a pregnancy shot this week, but well, I did anyway. We started some work on our office renovation, so we can get the nursery organized. We need to repaint the office before I can move my stuff back into that room. About a year ago, I moved my desk and computer into the sewing room, but now I need to move everything out of the sewing room and into the office. Phase One of the office renovation was to remove the nasty, ugly "wallpaper" from the one wall. We don't even think it was wallpaper. It's some weird sort of paper that was glued on the wall with a fabric bamboo look on top of that. If it was put up nice, we might have been able to make it work, but you could see the seams and it looked really bad. We were contemplating getting a new wallpaper to put on that wall, but the drywall looks pretty good, so I think we might just paint it. We already bought the paint last weekend, so once this wallpaper is removed, we will start patching holes and then maybe by next weekend we can start priming the walls to paint over the hideous army green that is currently on the walls. We are going much lighter with a banana cream color for most of the room, and then one wall will be the accent wall painted in an orange slice color. I can't wait to see it finished.

"When I'm bored
I send vibrations
In your direction
From the satellite mind"
- metric, satellite mind -
Today was the Blackhawks parade and rally on Michigan Avenue. I considered going to it. I live so close to it, but I decided it would probably be a madhouse, and I really didn't want to be pushing a stroller through the crowd, and I surely didn't want to be waiting around for hours with an almost 2 year old. My brother went to it with some co-workers and got some good photos.
Part of me wished that we at least walked to Washington Blvd. to watch the buses go by, but it is really hot and humid outside so I opted to stay in my air conditioned house, and just watch it on tv. I texted John who was at work to tell him when the buses left the United Center, so he could go out and watch them. His office was right on the route, so he did go out and see them go by, and he saw the Stanley Cup pass by too.

One of my fellow flickr contacts had a photo of this band Warpaint in her photostream, and I immediately fell in love with this song when I listened to their music. I've played it just about everyday since I bought the e.p. on iTunes a few days ago. It just has this really interesting haunting vocal melody that sort of sticks in your head, but in a good way.

"Chelsea Chelsea I believe that when your dancing
Slowly sucking your sleeve
That all the boys get lonely after you leave
And it's one for the Dagger and another for the one you believe!"
- the fratellis, chelsea dagger -
I am not really a sports person. I grew up with two younger brothers who played baseball all the way up through high school and some college. Needless to say, after years of going to their games, I really don't enjoy sitting and watching baseball or any sports really. I did, however, get a little into watching the Chicago Blackhawks in the playoffs for the Stanley Cup, and after last winning in 1961 they finally brought it back to Chicago.
This photo has nothing to do with that, but it's what happened today, and this is my 365 shot for the day. Right now, I'm listening to helicopters fly overhead, fireworks being shot off from somewhere nearby, horns honking, and lots of loud boys shouting "Let's Go Blackhawks!"
So congrats to the Blackhawks!

These ADORABLE baby goodies arrived in the mail yesterday. My friend Pamela sent these to me for Baby #2. Both of these shirts are adorable, as are the socks. I know they will get lots of use and definitely make an appearance in Baby #2's 365.

Last night we went to see She & Him at Millennium Park for a free concert in the pavilion. Unfortunately, I underestimated the number of people that would be there, and it was so crowded. We ended up sitting here next to the Bean to listen to the band. Though it was more like background music, we still had a good time. My soon to be sister-in-law came with John, Kenzie, and I, and we just had a little picnic while listening to the music. There was definitely some good people watching, and these hula hoopers were behind us. Kenzie enjoyed watching the little kids hula hooping, and every once in awhile if one of the kids dropped the hoop she would say "Oh no!" It was cute.
It was a perfect night for just hanging out in the city, so though it wasn't quite what we had expected, it was still fun.

Bought this gift bag yesterday and hopefully I can get it framed as art for the nursery. These green walls will be staying, and I'm planning to use orange and yellow as accent colors. Might as well keep with the owl theme I have going in the house.
156/365 /// Week 22 of 52
Friday night I gave myself a bit of a trim. My hair has been growing really fast and I was losing the shape and it was getting way too bulky. When it is humid outside, my hair gets even crazier and more unmanageable. So I got out my handy haircutting scissors and just started cutting in some layers and thinned it out underneath a bit. I even cut some little bangs in the front, since my bangs grew out too much. So glad I did this because now my hair is holding the shape much better. I'm hoping I can hold out for the summer and not cut it, so I can get it cut professionally sometime in September before Baby #2 is born.

Not everything that I buy is for Kenzie. ;)
I saw this yesterday and had to buy it for Baby #2. I knew if I didn't get it now, they wouldn't have it in October. Of course, the tags are staying on it in case baby surprises us again, and turns out to be a boy. With my love of owls, it was pretty obvious that I had to buy this.

154/365 /// 21 Weeks and 1 day
21 Weeks and 1 day
If you saw my post yesterday, we found out that we are having a second baby girl in October. I had to run some errands today and return something to Target. While I was there, I decided to browse the baby clothes, not for Kenzie, but just to see what they had for little babies. I know I have plenty of newborn and 3 months clothes that Kenzie outgrew pretty quickly, but I saw the cutest little sleeper outfit with a little owl on the front that I just had to have for Baby #2.
Once we get our office repainted, we will be moving my desk and everything out of what is currently my sewing room into the back bedroom/office. My sewing room will become the new nursery. I've already started shopping for furniture for the new nursery, but I know I can't buy anything until the other room is finished. Hopefully, we can get that room painted in the next couple months so we can start getting the nursery ready. Part of that transition also means Kenzie will get a big girl bed, so that baby sister will have the crib. I can't really imagine Kenzie in a big girl bed, but it will be nice to be able to sit in bed with her at night and read to her while she is all tucked for the night.

Today we went for the 20 week ultrasound of Baby #2. I'm actually 21 weeks today. The tech had a hard time trying to determine if it was a boy or girl, but did eventually manage to get a decent shot. She wasn't 100%, but it appears we are having another girl. We thought all along that it was a boy, so I was a bit surprised to find that it was a girl. Now onto narrowing down the names we've been coming up with.

I've read quite a few Jodi Picoult books, possibly all of them. My mom usually buys them and then gives them to me to read. I started this one a few days ago. It's about a boy who has Asperger Syndrome and is ultimately arrested for a murder. It's interesting. I'm about halfway through, and have a feeling I know what really happened, but with most of Jodi Picoult's books, you can end up being surprised even if you think you know what happened.
The last book I read of hers was Handle With Care about a little girl with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (brittle bone disease). I remember getting to the last chapter of that book and being so surprised at that ending that I just started crying. I even made my husband read it, and I could tell he was affected by it too. There was something about the way she writes that just really hits you sometimes. Not sure if this will have that same sort of ending, but I'm sure no matter what I'll be surprised.
