My mother-in-law gave me this necklace for my birthday. It's faux versions of turquoise and coral with carnelian and handmade nickel and silver-plated beads. It was made by artisans living on the Tibetan/Indian border. It's a really pretty and unique piece of jewerly. Definitely one of those pieces I would look at, but would never think to get for myself. I have a jade green dress that I think this will match perfectly. If only the weather would cooperate so I can wear it. We've had warmer weather here in Chicago, but the wind the last couple of days has been pretty crazy, definitely not flowy dress weather.

I got my haircut today and just had it all chopped off. It's short in the back and there are lots of layers to help with keeping the style. After my last haircut, my hair grew out really fast. Being pregnant has an affect on your hair, and can make your hair grow really fast. My hair is normally relatively slow in growing, but not now. Hopefully, this cut will last longer than the last one. I always take a photo to my hairstylist, and this time I took an old one of me, since he gave me this same haircut in 2006. Back then I was blonde, so the texture of my hair was a little different, but it's virtually the same haircut, just updated a little bit. So far I love it, but I love every haircut my guy gives me. He just really knows how to work with my hair, which is always a plus.

Yesterday was my birthday, so I was just sort of busy doing things like cleaning and laundry. That sounds about right for the day of your birthday, right? I thought I took at least one photo, but apparently I didn't. So I took this one on Tuesday. I bought this hat when I was out shopping. I love hats, I just never seem to wear them unless it's cold out. This one is pretty lightweight, so I think I might actually get some use out of it, especially on days I just don't feel like doing my hair.

Bench Monday | Black Boots and Dolly Edition /// 116/365
So I've been a little busy the last couple of Mondays, so I haven't played along with Bench Monday. But I'm back...at least for today.
I've a bit of a headache (again) so I'll try to comment on more photos later today. Right now, since the baby is napping, I'm going to take a little nap myself and hope this headache is gone when I wake up.

I know the focus is bad, but she was moving fast, and I wanted to catch one of her looking at me. We had a first communion party to go to for John's cousin's youngest daughter today. Afterwards we stopped by my parents house since it was not too far away so that my parents and grandparents could see Kenzie for a little bit. My grandparent's neighbor gave my mom this little bus that used to belong to their grandson, but he outgrew it. Kenzie loved it. She "drove" it all over the house.

Not a very exciting photo, I know. Apart from photos of fabrics, this is what I took for today. Since we just redid our patio, we got a new table and chairs for it too. We opted for a smaller bistro table with just two chairs, but I actually think we can fit two more of these chairs around the table. It's either that or searching for a bench, which was the original plan I had. We want to provide seating for at least 4 people, though most of the time this will probably just be used by John and I, and maybe Kenzie as she gets older.

113/365 /// Week 16 of 52
15 Weeks 2 days
Pregnant
I never really took any photos this early on when I was pregnant with Kenzie. I didn't really show that much with her until I was much farther along. I'm not a teeny person, and I think I just hid it well. When I was about 7 months pregnant and was still working, we had a Farewell Party and Baby Shower at work (I had been there almost 8 years and wasn't coming back after Kenzie was born), and it was funny the number of people who did not know I was pregnant. Looking back at photos that I took then, I was clearly pregnant, people are just oblivious sometimes. Anyway, I *feel* more pregnant this time around, and some of my jeans aren't quite as comfortable anymore. I thought maybe I should take a photo for future reference, since I didn't do that last time around.

112/365 /// Happy Earth Day!
"When sundown pales the sky,
I wanna hide a while, behind your smile,
And everywhere I'd look, your eyes I'd find.
For me to love you now,
Would be the sweetest thing, 'twould make me sing,
Ah, but I may as well, try and catch the wind."
- donovan, catch the wind -
A photo of the flowers on my favorite tree for Earth Day. I wish these flowers would stay year round. I love the blooming flowers that Spring brings.
Today was a low-key day. I didn't feel very well when I woke up. Another hormone headache, but it went away after drinking some water and having breakfast. I redecorated the wall that Kenzie's crib is against, taking down the wooden letters that spelled her name that hung above her crib. I like the letters, I just never loved how the wall felt incomplete. I found a cute Paris print while out shopping yesterday and hung that above the crib and moved her wooden letters to hang above the window. Now her walls look more balanced. I should have done this a long time ago.

111/365
Today was a productive day for me for a change. I'm 15 weeks along for this pregnancy, and for the last several weeks I've had on and off nausea and hormone headaches. Not the kind of nausea that makes me actually sick, but the kind that makes me feel like not doing much of anything, as well as not really having much of an appetite. I didn't really go through this with Kenzie. With her I had a couple really rough days, but I believe what I had with her was just a reaction to the strong prenatal vitamins I received from my doctor. As soon as I stopped taking those, and went to a non-prescription vitamin, I felt better and didn't experience the nausea again. As if the slight nausea isn't enough, I've been getting hormone headaches more often than I'd like. Of course, no one really wants a headache anyway, but it's no fun when you have a toddler who has no idea why mommy doesn't feel like playing.
So onto today...since I woke with no headache, and didn't really have any nausea I decided to try and get on the treadmill again (which since I started running in January, has declined rapidly in the last month). So I did a run walk for 20 minutes, then decided to try out this workout that I dvr'd from FitTV which is a Bhangra dance workout. It was actually really fun, but since I'm almost 4 months along and have really gotten out of the routine of working out, I really didn't feel up to the full hour workout, but I'll definitely give it a go another day.
I also ran some errands today at Target, buying new Brita filters for our water pitcher. I kept forgetting to get them the last two times I was out at places that sell them. I ended up with new filters AND a new pitcher that holds more water than our old one, so that was a plus.
As if that wasn't enough for me in one day, I finally finished this pair of baby booties that were a custom order. I just kept running out of time to work on them, and I really need to sew when Kenzie is sleeping. I'm far too tired by the time she goes to bed to work on them at night, so naptime is my work time. For some reason, a million other things always need to be done around the house at that time, but today I made it work and got everything done.

Unfortunately, I couldn't capture a good shot of the yard. I tried to shoot from the upstairs window(s), but this was the best I could get, even with my wider lens. Anyway, this is the new patio. It is still drying, and we won't be able to walk on it until tomorrow at the earliest. By this weekend, we hope to get a new table and chairs, and possibly even a new grill. This was something that needed to be done for years, and we finally were able to get it finished this year. It's about time. We can now enjoy our yard this spring, summer and fall, and I think the dog will love it too.

109/365
I've gotten a tad bit behind on updating my 365 photos. This is from Monday. I didn't even have time today to participate in Bench Monday again. Oh well, hopefully next week I can make time!
Our patio work started today. All the old street pavers were torn up, and concrete was poured. We were told it could take a couple of days, but the work was finished in one day. Now we just need it to see before we can go out there and enjoy it. It is amazing the transformation it has made to our yard. I'm sure I'll take a photo tomorrow. I should have taken a "before" but I am pretty sure I have one somewhere in my collection. While the patio work was being done I went to the new-ish Home Goods store with my parents. They came up to pick up the rest of the old patio furniture we are getting rid of, so we headed out to do a little shopping while they were here. I bought this little owl for Baby #2. Kenzie has a little "Baby is sleeping" stuffed sign for her bedroom, and I saw this, and thought it was perfect for Baby #2, especially given my love of owls and that it can be for a boy or girl.

I've gotten a tad bit behind on updating my 365 photos. This is from Sunday.
We were at the in-laws today for lunch, and had to head back home to get the yard cleared out for patio work that started today (Monday). I didn't have any photos, but saw these little flash cards sitting on the table. I bought these in hopes of teaching Kenzie French (and learning a little myself). I can go through the cards, but learning a language is just not my thing, though I do want to learn French well enough to speak it. Especially, if I ever have a chance to go back to France. I would love to take Kenzie one day, but the next time I go, I need to understand the language a little better to avoid stressing myself out.

We only have a couple of days left of these bricks in our yard. On Monday, we have work starting, which consists of tearing up all the old street pavers and having concrete poured.
Bought these sandals today, while I was out to buy a hardwood floor cleaning kit. We've had two Swiffers die on us because they would get clogged and just stopped working. I have the Method Mop with the microfiber pads, which I happen to really like; however, I've replaced the mop twice since it cracks at the base. Currently it is duct taped to keep the mop head on. I'll still use that for the kitchen and bathrooms, but I just bought a Bona mop for the hardwood floors. I tried it out today and so far really like it. It seems pretty sturdy, and I like that the microfiber cleaning pads can be machine washed (like the Method pads). They are also bigger than the mop head, so they can really clean along the baseboards well. Keeping up with the floors in my house is my most hated job, so I'm always looking for ways to make it easier. Hopefully, this will do the trick.

I really had no ideas today for my photo, but when I came into my sewing room, Kenzie left her frog in the wago just like this. So there you have it...today's photo.
We spent a good part of the day outside today. Went for two walks, and Kenzie and I played outside with the bubbles left over from her birthday last year. I also tried to teach her how to hit a ball with her little golf club. She loves it outside, so much so that I have the hardest time getting her to come back in. Kenzie also learned how to eject dvd's from my laptop today. I'm proud she could figure that out, but also disappointed because now that she knows what to do the dvd's don't stay on long enough for her to stay out of trouble when I just want to get things done (like putting away laundry).

This year we actually have flowers on the lilac bush in front of our house. Last year, the landscapers trimmed the bush too early, and we didn't have any buds. I love the smell of the flowers on this bush. If only the flowers lasted longer than they do.

And this is part of why my bill at Target always adds up. Did I need any of this? Nope. Did I want it? YES. I've never tried the Pixi cosmetics before. I have a couple of things from the Jemma Kidd line, but really liked the colors in this shadow kit. And the lip stain? I just tried it out. It smells great, feels great, and the color I chose is perfect and just what I wanted. I'm hoping that for the price, it lasts longer than the Cover Girl lip stain that I have. I haven't tried that mascara out, but I don't love the CG Lash Blast even though I currently use it and have tried it out several times. This mascara is the one with the little round brush. We'll see if I like it. The nail polish? Just for fun and I wanted some new colors.
And the Hello Kitty nail polish? Yeah, that's for Kenzie. She was reaching for all the Hello Kitty items, and I opted for the clear polish with sparkles. I think she'll look so cute with this on her fingers and toes. :)

Shh-hh...
Baby sleeping
My parents came over today. Yesterday we noticed that our outside water spicket was not working and John found that it was broken within the wall. Fortunately, it had broken when the water was off, otherwise we would have had a major water leak. Of course, because our house is old, nothing is easy to fix. We had to cut the wall open and try to figure out how to get at the valve to replace the part. My dad offered to come over and work on it today, which I think John was relieved to hear. I know he could have done the job, but it was in a tricky location, and not something he does on a regular basis. Within a couple of hours, my dad replaced and fixed what needed to be done. Now we just need to patch the drywall and repaint that section of the wall. It was a pain to have to do this now, and annoying that this happened, but we are having our patio redone next week, so having a working hose in the back is necessary for the workers. Better to have found out this needed fixing this weekend rather than right before work started in the yard.

So I mentioned in my post yesterday that John got a new bike. I had an idea for a photo, but I just could not get the focus to come out right. I should have tried a different lens, but this was what I had at the time. Anyway, this is part of the new bike. It's pretty nice. Now he'll be able to get to and from work a lot faster than when he was just walking.

100/365 /// eek....I forgot this was Day 100!
Watching Elmo's World.
She'll thank me when she's older for photoshopping out most of her scabby nose, after she took a faceplant onto the sidewalk earlier this week.
I really didn't plan to use a photo of Kenzie for my 365 shot, but I was too tired to take any other photos today. Since it was so nice out, we took the El to Michigan Avenue so John could go to the Trek store and look at their bikes. He's needed a new one for almost two years now, and since the weather was so nice it was the perfect day to get out and enjoy the weather. John chose a new bike then we went to lunch at Hackney's in Printer's Row before John rode his bike home and Kenzie and I walked back home to the West Loop. It was such a beautiful day that we did not mind the walk at all. John kept insisting he would come back with the car and pick us up, but we were fine walking. We could have taken the El back home, but I'd much prefer to walk when the weather is this nice, rather than being stuck on a stinky train or waiting in a stinky El station.

"Advertising looks and chops a must
No big hair!!"
- pavement, cut your hair -
A couple of days ago, I got a little tired of my hair, so I gave myself a mini haircut. Cut some long bangs, and chopped off what I was referring to as my mullet. Basically it was just the longer pieces of hair that always grow out faster in the back. So after a mini haircut, I think I've managed to buy myself a little more time before having to actually go see my hairdresser. Don't get me wrong, I love my hairdresser, and he always does a fantastic job. It's just harder to schedule with a toddler, and I know as she gets older its going to be harder to get her to sit still in her stroller until I'm done. I'm going to have to go see him eventually though to get my hair styled again. but for now it at least looks better than it did.

98/365 /// Little Zoo baby booties (0-6 months)
It's been a couple of months since I have made any baby booties specifically for my etsy shop. The last booties I have been working on have all been custom orders. I really wanted to use this fabric, so I made this pair today. I had two pairs I needed to finish for a friend of mine, so when I finished those, I went ahead and worked on these. I'm hoping to find at least a couple hours during the week to make at least one new pair a week. It's hard finding time with a toddler though. When she's napping I always have so many other things to do, but this is something I do enjoy, even if I don't get around to it as often as I like to.

Ordered these from HSN as part of the Twiggy London collection. I love Converse, so thought why not get a pair of Converse-ish sneakers in pink satin with velvet shoelaces. They arrived today, but I haven't worn them out yet, since it was rainy and I didn't want to ruin them. I also ordered a Union Jack purse, but that hasn't arrived yet. I never really thought about buying stuff from HSN, but when I saw a commercial for the Twiggy London collection, I checked it out and immediately knew I wanted a couple of things. It was also where I happened to stumble upon the super deal on the Dyson. Now I get all these notices for other kind-of-fun collections that I like, but I don't need any of it, and just keep telling myself that.

Bench Monday | Baby After Bath Edition /// 95/365
I didn't think I'd participate in Bench Monday this week, but needed to take a 365 photo anyway. So this is just a simple Baby Bench Monday photo.

This is just one of many photos I took yesterday for Easter Sunday. We went to my parents house for lunch, and while there Kenzie went on an Easter egg hunt. She had a lot of fun running around the yard looking for all the eggs. I think this was one of the couple times she dropped her basket and all the eggs fell out. She was determined to pick them all up and put them back in the basket.

Who would have thought a vacuum could bring so much happiness? After talking about getting a new vacuum for years, we finally did and got a good deal on the Dyson DC25 Blueprint (with all the fancy attachments). It arrived yesterday, even though we weren't expecting it until next week. After quickly putting it together, I did a test run and we could not believe how well this thing worked. The suction is unbelievable. Actually, it will take a little getting used to because it has so much power it almost feels like it suctions itself to the floor. I don't think anyone actually loves cleaning, but I do look forward to using this around the house. I've already done one quick vacuum throughout the house, but I know I can be more thorough if I have more time. It might have a hefty price tag, but so far this thing is proving that it is well worth it.

We went to Brookfield Zoo today with John's sister and her oldest son, Ronnie. We were supposed to meet up with John's parents as well, and his sister's youngest son, Eric. John's mom ended up getting sick, as well as Eric, so it ended up just being the four of us. The traffic to get to the zoo was crazy. First we hit major traffic which seemed to be caused from an accident, then we hit the insane zoo traffic. What should have taken us only about 30 minutes to get to the zoo, ended up taking about an hour and a half. EVERYBODY was out today. We should have anticipated it since it was Good Friday, and the weather was beautiful.. I guess we just didn't expect the amount of traffic there was, just to get into the zoo. Once there, it was crowded, but nothing too crazy. After about 4 hours there, it was time to go home. We hit traffic coming home too, and ended up detouring onto the local streets. But we had nowhere to be by then, and didn't mind the drive.

The dog could not be happier to go lay in the yard and out in the sun. It's about 80 degrees today, which is amazing. Everyone in our house is happy when it's sunny and nice out.
